Heater core
The heater core has been a sore point for the last 15 years. The replacements did not seem to last very long which lead everyone to use the longer lasting Motorcraft part HC 5. Even this part has become suspect.
The early style had a reinforced tube which prevented breaking it loose causing a leak. Adding a reinforcement to the newer ones was a suggested fix. Soldering can cause issues on the new part so epoxy was suggested. I will try to add a photo from the svocop.com site. Photos were added to the album under other.
I just saw on an ebay listing that the Motorcraft HC 5 has a 10 year warranty. Nice but I doubt it covers the $500-1000 labor bill.
