This would be awesome to turn into an asc model...
Probably not easy, but might be worth a shot!

I used severasl kits, The base kit was the McLaren M81 kit, so frequently seen. Then different kit BBS Style 1/25th scale, and other parts that I can't recall. I went to model shows & rummaged thru toy car part bins. Felt like a "cleanjunk yard
"
I bought real automotive tape striping in orange & cut it to scale with an exacto knife. I found a correct spoiler. I painted the side quarters flat black. I also built a chromed version of the 302.

I have been collecting a few Fox bodied models over the years with the idea to build a GP4 (HA) car one day.
pretty close to having all the parts. for those of you intested in building your asc capri coupe in model form heres the kits i recommend, or at least what i am using for my pace car:
all are 1/24 scale
start with the Revell 1/24 scale 1979 Capri RS kit
you will have to modify some of the plastic. you will have to cut out some of the hatch plastic to modify it for the bubble back. same for the grill.
then get mpc 1985 SVO.
great for the interior on 85/86 capri's.
also the upper spoiler is a great matcH for the ASC deck spoiler.
also has sail panel that could be custimized to look like the ASC sail panel.
next grab a Monogram 1984 mustang lx 5.0 convertable
for the motor/trans & suspension.
for those of you with the EFI motors, try the Revell/monogram 1993 Cobra Mustang.
and for those of you with pace cars or 84-86 RS looking for that airdam,
pick up the MPC 1979 mustang indy pace car or the revell 1980 motorcraft mustang (looks like a 80/81 cobra).
for the bubble hatch glass, i am using a 1980's Porshse back window.
looks perfect. not sure what kit it came from.
the only thing i havent figuered out is the taillight assy.
also looking for the correct wheels.
anyone know if they made a 85-87 cougar xr7 or 85/6 t-bird turbo coupe modelwith the factory rims?

As far as I know, none of the major manufactures made any '85-'86 kits with the correct wheels, however their was a company that made a nice resin kit of an '86 TurboCoupe that was designed to be used with the Monogram '87-'88 TurboCoupe to be complete.
I have this resin kit and the wheels are very nice. I bought the kit probably 15 years ago or so I can't recall the name of the company and unfortunately the box it came in is completely plain with nothing on it.

Wow, Jason/Brent thanks for all the great information and pointers. I never thought this simple post would garner such a wealth of knowledge from the been there done that crowd!!!
Now, do we have any members whom have built and have recomendations for an asc capri vert???
Very interesting guys, thanks!

I did not attempt to "bubble-back" the rear window, as I did not wanna risk messing up the model. Otherwise, it's right on !

Came over from the other thread...must have missed this the first time...lol
I'm using the M81 model and the Turbo RS model too.
Here's my attempt at the interior...it's a bit dusty but complete with roll bar, short throw shifter, bullitt pedals, fuzzy floor mats and nitrous bottle...I also made the radar detector but the dash is in the other box thats under too much stuff...lol. Looks ok

Thats really beautiful. I didn't make floor mats as when you assemble it, they will be just about impossible to see. (Sadly ~ since yours are SO nice!). However, I used a different style shifter looking more like one for an automatic and I only painted black the gas & brake pedals, so that the clutch pedal would not show. Sadly, there are no ascMcLaren decals for the sides, hood & hatch. I got a terrific, nearly identical rear spoiler from attending a model show & rummaging around in many many many "parts" bins. I have no clue wTF it came from originally. Only thing I don't have is the bubble back hatch. It looks like a 1982 ascMcLaren
It's surprising that the model maker didn't do the simple alteration (in 1983 and upgrade the kit with the newly designed rear glass.
I guess by then interest in the Capri was falling/ Shame! The Mustang's interest never dipped. From 1979 thru 1986 I always liked the Capri better, every year. I oft wonder WHAT it would be like today (the Capri) had they kept it at Mercury.
