609421 is not an asc/McLaren.
It's a 1986 Capri, but it never was at ascMcLaren !

???? OK....... I have the wife verifying the VIN # on the car at this moment...... The one I gave you is the one that is on the registration.
The car is definately a Mclaren convertible. No one would go to the trouble of duplicating the convertible mods in their garage. It would be easier to just buy one.
Is the VIN # located anywhere else on the car? On a frame member maybe. I just want to make sure the VIN plate on the dash has not been swaped out.

Pull a fender and look at a small tag on the unibody (inner fender). It will have the last 6 digits.DaytonaTim wrote:???? OK....... I have the wife verifying the VIN # on the car at this moment...... The one I gave you is the one that is on the registration.

Look on the door label....full vin.
Look on the dash plate....full vin.
Look on the radiator support buck tag.....last 6 digits.
Look at the back of the engine...supposedly a vin is stamped on the V8s somewhere...not sure on 6s.

I will look on the motor. It should be stamped on the back horizontal surface of the block, if I am not mistakennegusm wrote: Pull a fender and look at a small tag on the unibody (inner fender). It will have the last 6 digits.

Does not have dash plate...... Did convertible get the dash plate?
I know the radiator was swapped out to a V8 radiator by the last owner. I do not know if the support buck tag is still there. I will look. Where exactly is it suppose to be located.
As far as the fender number goes. Is it located along the top of the metal inner fender, visible from the top side of the car (with the fender removed). Or is it visible from the side of the car, along the side of the metal inner fender.
Do you know which fender I should pull? My luck I would pull the wrong one.
The wife just called. The VIN # in the windshield matches the number in my post.
Boy I sure hope I do not have a hot Mclaren that someone has swapped the winshield VIN tag on

Make sure it is double stapled
Any info on body stripes or wheel color?
Red..... Hmm..... I have not seen a speck of red paint on the car. I know it has been repainted, it is now black. Was the inside of the trunk (i.e. the backside of the fenders, the trunk side of the back wheel wells, floor and additional rear frame members) painted black or were they the body color?
If it was indeed a red car originaly, someone did a hell of a job repainting it
I may do a little scraping to investigate.

The tag is not on the radiator but on the front of the radiator support. Mine was towards the top.DaytonaTim wrote: I know the radiator was swapped out to a V8 radiator by the last owner. I do not know if the support buck tag is still there. I will look. Where exactly is it suppose to be located.

Pull either fender. There is a metal tag sticking out that you can only read when the fender is pulled.

You could pull a door panel to check the original color...chances are someone didn't go that crazy if they changed the color. Also pull the bezel around the shifter to see if you can see the body color down in there...2 faily easy ways to check the original color...just a though...DaytonaTim wrote:BlackSandy wrote:What color is the firewall ??
Everything is black, like I said I have not seen a single speck of red paint, anywhere.

Prior owner had a good paint job done. Trust me, she was originally ascMcLaren Red, which is Audi's Laser Red Code H1H1 and also Porsche's Guards Red, Code POR 027.

Firewall and inner fender wells.........Black
All surfaces in the trunk........Black
Under the rear storage bins....... Black
Under carpet along door sill scuff plates.......Black
Like I said not a speck of red anywhere......
This whole car seems to be a mystery. It has Recaro seats and the delux door panels. Both of which I understand were not available on the v6 models.......
Hmmmmm....... well it would not be the first time someone at a small custom fabrication shop goofed on record keeping. They usually have more important things to pay attention to........like payroll, supply lines..... and crazy women that like to destroy records....
The whole reason I asked to begin with was because I am having a custom soft tonnau cover made. I wanted to incorporate the asc/Mclaren logo in it and I was just wondering if there was a 2nd color for the car. If so I was going to use that color for the logo. If there is no 2nd color I guess I will just use black.
Thanks Sandy. You might want to make a small note on your records. If I ever do find any red on it I will be sure and let you know.

Listen to me. I am correct. Let me explain toyou.
EVERY 1987-1990 ascMcLaren with ANY color interior OTHER THAN BLUE, was originally made at Ford Motor Company in Ravenm Black ! (Cars ordered with BLUE interior were made in Oxford White (except for 1988s, when they were made in Pastel Smoke Grey). ~ Therefore....all of those (hidden places) would be black! They are black on all McLarens with grey, tan, scarlet or black interiors.
Since those areas were never going to "show" ascMcLaren left them alone! My 1990 has blue interior andthe body is blue. Under the rugs is white, the firewall has been sprayed black, but white "hidden" spots can been found.
Trust me, the day your car left ascMcLaren, it was bright red. Perhaps, it was repainted BY ascMcLaren at a later date, prior to being sold. But, it was originally red, before it was black.
