611848 was recieved at ascMcLaren on February 28th and was shipped out on March 3rd 1986. It's one of 245 - 1986 'Verts made. There should ba a plaque onthe exterior passenger side, between the door opening & the rear wheel cut out with it's number of build at ascMcLaren.

The 1986 Convert. Build:--

86 vert history

Post by 86ASC ROB »

I looked in the door jamb on the passanger side and didn't find a tag to tell me what # the car is .If you happen to know by the 611848 # that would help me .

I'll give you a little history about myself and the car . I used to have a 1979 capri rs turbo that i converted to a 5.0 . This was about sixteen years ago . The mods included a t5 , 8.8 rear, all new suspension from a 87+ mustang, 79 pace car interior , ground effects . It was nice but i got hooked on an 88 lx and sold the capri . I always wanted a mclaren so i started looking off and on . I was bidding on one this year and lost it to petes ponys in the last 10 sec, (thanks pete).well it all worked out. I bought a 86 asc mclaren sc in flordia. It is in this forum in the classified as decent 86 vert. I won and had it shipped to me in philadelphia .After talking to the dealer i bought it from he said that he got it at an auction. Can you believe the past owner donated it to Purple Heart. The car fax report shows 90k miles in 1994 .It now has 92k. It must have been in storage .

So far i enjoy this forum. I'm learning alot about the car by reading past dissucisons . I plan to keep up with future dissucions and hopefully i can give some info myself

The # is NOT in the Door Jamb area, but rather on the EXTERIOR of the car, Passenger's side. Obviously it fell off of your car. I'll try & find a picture. Here's # 14 from 1986

and here is where it goes:-

and here is where you can buy a new one:
Go to "EXTERIOR EMBLEMS" Section

I don't think you have that luxury. I think they are ones that fell off cars or the cars went to the crusher.

ok this gets good.

I looked up the name on the original title. After i got the name i searched the florida phone book. I found the name and was able to talk to the last owner. turns out he was the original owner. The car is #126
It was repainted at one time . He told me he beat a porche @ 150 mph :P He was very nice and wants me keep in touch.
