I sent him a note that his front air dam is an odd one for an asc and that his paint is not sikkens since asc didn't paint the coupes.
Pictures of this car have been around for a while. Don't remember if the owner ever posted on FEP or the like.

May not be 100% correct but looks to be a very clean well kept decent ASC

I'm watching it to see what it brings. I'm figuring mine would be worth 100% more, being a Full Packaged ascMcLaren, with every option, and bone stock original with zero mods, and 688 miles -vs- 112,000 miles.
Looks to me that his trransmission quadrant shifter's rubber piece is okay. How can THAT be ? Yes, it's the wrong lower front air dam. Otherwise it's okay. I don't like the hobbled up stereo, either. Otherwise, it's very very very nice!

I got a note from him.
Supposedly the air dam is original and he has talked with Sandy about it. Seems like some Eurocoupes slid through with RS air dams because of a shortage or another?
The "Sikkens" paint he says was from a $800 option you could have any ascMcLaren painted any color you wanted.

I call double B.S.
Regarding the paint:
In 1989 & 1990 there was a Special Paint Option for $806.00. This was for a a SPECIAL ORDER COLOR, of the customer's request ! ONE such car was made, in 1977 Truimph "British Racing Green" ~ I have located that car. It has Sand Beige Interior and a Tan Roof. All Converts wore SIKKENS paint. Coupes did NOT !!! Coupes were never re-painted !!
Regarding the air dam, remember that these were originally built as GS cars with special upgrades usinmg RS parts. (Seats, etc)..... The Air Dams from the factory were deleted, to make way for the Hella Foggies and the RS-styled air dam. The air dam on that car, I think is from a Mustang! There were no UPlevel Mustangs in the ascMcLaren plant, Only LX V-8 Coupes, which NEVER wore THAT style air dam.

Air Dam
Sandy,
That is not a RS air dam, it is a air dam that is made buy the same people that made the ASC air dam. There was one on my EuroCoupe also, ( matter of fact, his car and mine are almost identical) the exact same air dam was on both. Can you tell me with 100% certainty that ASC did not equip these cars with this air dam.

First off, I really wish people would stop putting words in my mouth, and READ! Return to the above and you'll NOT see where I ever said that it WAS an RS air Dam. It wasn't !!
The air dam on the white car immediately above, as well as the other car in question are not, were not and did not ever see the inside walls of the asc plant on Livonia Avenue. They ARE a factory (FORD) part that was on some Mustang. If ya want I'll locate that Mustang.
The Oxford White was a stocker color and NOT Sikkens! The $ 806.00 was for 89 + 90 cars and was for SPECIAL ORDER COLOR COLOR COLOR COLOR....all paints on 'Verts were SIKKENS !!
BTW, the wheels on that car are ALSO MUSTANG !!
EDIT: I'm BACK! The air dam on your car as well as the car 4-sale comes from:-
1981 Mustang Cobra Edition
1982 Mustang GT
Here it is on the 1981 COBRA EDITION - - 3 years prior to the 1st McLaren.....

Here, on a 1982 Mustang GT:- (2 years prior to the ASC McLaren:--

Air Dam
Sandy,
You are wrong.
The air dam on both cars (mine and the one for sale) are a aftermarket air dam that was designed to fit both the Mustang and Capri.
The lower air dam on a 84RS, 85 RS or GS 5.0 or 86 5.0 is the same part number used on a 79 Mustang Pace car, 80-81 Mustang Cobra or 1982 GT.
The spoiler on that mans car and mine are not a Ford part.

IF it's "Aftermarket" as you say.....then why is it pictured IN the Mustang Brochures, where the above pictures I posted cometh from? Manufacturers NEVER picture car in their brochures wearing aftermarket parts!! Sorry, but I am not wrong!

Air dam
Look at the picture you posted, then the one on my car. The lower fender extension on the factory part and these aftermarket air dams is different.
The factory Ford fender extension is about 3 inches shorter than the aftermarket air dam, plus the factory Ford part is made of fiberglass, and the aftermarket part is made of vacuum formed urethane.

It's a very close copy of the Cobra, GT (and later RS) air dam. The difference I think is in the lip at the top of the air dam on the aftermarket one. The true Ford one used a different bumper cover and doesn't have that lip to it. Other than that I don't think there are any visible differences between the two.Sandy wrote:IF it's "Aftermarket" as you say.....then why is it pictured IN the Mustang Brochures, where the above pictures I posted cometh from? Air Dam
Sandy,
You are wrong!
Here is another observation. The aftermarket air dam that was on my car and the NOS ASC Mclaren air dam, mount exactly the same. They use tape and screws across the top, and the fender extensions are held on by 2 bolts ( to the front air dam) as the Mclaren parts are. If I mount the fender extensions on my car, the seam between the Mclaren fender extension and the aftermarket air dam join in the same spot. The script of the writing on the parts are exactly the same, making me believe they are both manufactured by the same company.

David
P.S. The yellow part is the aftermarket air dam. I have posted more pictures in my album.

Nope! Same part. Here's the differance. Yes, I do see the top small lip, but I guarantee it's also on the factory cars. Differance is that on the 2 red Mustangs 81/82 the air dam went onto the car first, and then the bumper fascia rub (or finishing) strip and that lip in under the black rub strip. The one on your white car was installed after the rub strip was allready on the car and therefoire the "lip" abuts it, just under the strip. Yes, at some point yours may have been sold as aftermarket product, but it's first appearance to the world was on the 81 Cobra & 82 GT and Never Ever on any bone stock ascMcLaren Coupe or Vert between 1984 & 1990.

Air Dam
Sandy,
The aftermarket air dam( on my car) and the ASC Mclaren air dam are designed, from a engineering stand point, the exact same way. Then looking at the fact that they both are vacuum formed urethane, plus the script on both parts are the same, leads me to believe they were manufactured by the same people! So how can we be sure that in efforts to reduce the cost of the Eurocoupe they did not use this air dam?
The Factory Ford part, is designed a completely different way. It attaches differently.
David
P.S. The air dam was brought out on the 1979 Mustang Indy pace car!
