Windshield washer question????
Hey, I have been wondering. Did the Mclaren convertibles come with the windshield washer functioning? Mine has a nozzel on the plastic cowl grill and rubber hoses coming off of the nozzel.......... but that seems to be it. I can not find the resivoir or pump. I think there is a washer control on the turn signal though.
I have not dug into this very deep at all. I figured it would be better first to check and see if ASC revoved the washer.

No, they didn't remove the washer, nor pump nor reservor!

Yeah but he has a v6 in that car. I know the v8s and 4cyl cars were different....the 4cyl cars got a tank that sat in the hole of the driver's side inner fender I thought. I don't have a clue what the v6 cars had.mandra wrote:Looks to me like you have the wrong overflow tank. The cars I have seen have a dual purpose tank that has both the overflow and the washer fluid/pump in the place where that big overflow you have is.
The tank should be rectangular. The one you have almost looks like an 86 and up tank.

Windshield washer question ????
I have an 85 Mustang Coupe (as Mike knows) and the reservoir and pump are in the driver's side fender between the HUGE coolant reservoir and strut tower. Seems that it comes out the hole where the breather duct is in the picture.
If you are interested, they are available.

I was at a pull-a-part last night and took a look at an 86 Mustang w/ a V6. It had the big coolant tank just like Tim's on the drivers side. The Washer tank was inside the fender with the neck sticking out the round snorkle hole. The stock V6 air cleaner only had one snorkle whereas it looks like ASC added a second one. My guess would be that ASC relocated the washer tank but I doubt they removed it altogether.

Boy, this is strange.
ASC never did any engine modifications, did they? I know this mod is extremely minor, but any mod to a smog-ified motor is pretty major in the eyes of the EPA.
My guess would be either ford changed things in the production run or a private owner changed/modified the aircleaner housing.
What do you guys think?
I will look this weekend and see if the second duct on the aircleaner housing looks factory or if it looks home modified.
This whole car seems to be an anomoly:
1) Sandy has the car listed as red (yet it never was)
2) It has the upgraded interior (which it should not)
3) The Recaro seats were covered in cloth not leather (this could have been a reupholster job but the covers were in such bad shape it is hard to believe they were the 2nd set of covers)
4) Now the aircleaner/winshield washer situation

Probably a previous owner wanted the "look" of the dual snorkel setup since he didn't get the V8.
So then probably the driver's side snorkel should be removed (I bet if you pull the air cleaner you will see some nifty modification).
And here is probably the OEM setup (this is a 4cyl car but has the big radiator overflow tank and washer tank in the hole)

Slight correction:
"" 1) Sandy has the car listed as red ""
ascMcLaren has the car listed as Red when it was converted. Sandy has the list FROM asc/McLaren.

Sandy, I stand corrected.
I guess since you are the ASC guru on the site, you, by default, become the wrongly accused wipping boy for all of ASC's mistakes. I appologize.
What is it they say......"Don't shoot the messenger"
You know, this winter I replaced the air filter on the Mclaren with one that was suppose to fit it. I found the air filter to be about 3/16 to 1/4 of an inch too high. I attrubuted it to an after market filter manufacturers slight mistate.
But now I am wondering.

I will definately fo some investigation this weekend. Maybe I will be able to tell if a washer tank was ever mounted to the inner fender.negusm wrote:Probably a previous owner wanted the "look" of the dual snorkel setup since he didn't get the V8.

Oh, also, I finished the custom tonneau cover a few weeks ago, I will have to post a pic soon. My upholstery talents leave a lot to be desired.....but then again I have less than 30 bucks invested in the cover also.
